The Grandvalira ski resort was founded in 2003 with the combination of two of the most historic resorts in the Pyrenees and their sectors: Pas de la Casa, Grau Roig, Encamp (founded in 1956) and Soldeu, El Tarter and Canillo (founded in 1964). This combination allowed the creation of the largest resort in the Pyrenees and one of the largest in Europe, with 210 kilometres of pistes, a total of 137 pistes of all levels and a single pass to be used throughout this skiable area. The 2019 season saw the creation of a new entrance area, the Peretol.
Since the beginning, Grandvalira has been characterised by a large investment, with more than 100 million euros invested to expand the number of skiable kilometres, update and increase the network of ski lifts with a capacity of more than 100,000 skiers per hour, improve its network of snow cannons (which allows for more than 66% of its artificially snowed territory to be used) and provide the resort with the most complete network of activities for après-ski fun.
